  • A little bit about the role...

  • The Sales Estimator plays a critical role in driving growth and profitability of British Offsite.  This individual is principally responsible for the generation of pricing documents that will be used as part of the sales & estimating end-to-end process to generate new and profitable business that that align with the company’s long-term objectives.

     

    Reporting to the Senior Estimator and working closely with the Business Development Teamthe Sales Estimator will also work cross-functionally with technical, design, project delivery and other departments in the execution of this role. 

     
    The successful candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
     

    Sales Estimating – Budget Costs/Tenders

    • Review of all necessary tender documentation (from the client)and work with the Business Development Manager (Leads) to ensure that all information necessary to conduct a budget cost or full tender costing has been captured and highlight where information is missing.
    •  Where information is missing/non-existent, record appropriate assumptionsas agreed between the Estimating Manager and the BDML to ensure that costings proceed on an agreed basis and prevent tender submission timescale slippage.
    •  Preparation of tender estimates undertake detailed Bluebeamtake-offs, from tender documents and drawings.  Ensure that the drawings used are catalogued for future reference as well as to support tender writing/submission.
    •  Utilise output from the initial structural engineering technical review process and ensure that the recommendations are fed into the tender estimates.
    •  Produce Bills of Quantities to the appropriate method of measurement in line with BOS estimating systems.
    •  Compilsupplier and subcontractor enquiries as necessaryeither directly generatedor through the British Offsite Purchasing team for incorporation into the tender documents.
    •  Conduct pre-Tender Adjudication (TA) reviews of estimates with the Estimating Manager to ensure that (as far as possible) any issues/discrepancies are identified prior to the TA, and minimise post-TA rework that could jeopardise other tender work timescales.
     Sales Estimating – Post Tender
    • Support the BDM team with responding to post-tender pricing queries. 
    • Recost opportunities in line with Business Development Manager Contracts as sales progress from Sales Progression, through to Contract Progression to Sales Closure stages.
     Sales Estimating – Post-sales
    • Ensure QA processes are followed, including handover packs, estimating costing sheets and attending pre-start meetings and project team meetings.
    •  Create a ‘rulebook’ for design to follow in relation to what has been estimated for to ensure that costs can be appropriately managed.
    • Provide costing of amendments/variations as appropriate with the Project Delivery Team.
     Commercial Estimating
    • Assist the Commercial Estimator with the administration, maintaining, and uploading contracts and EBOMs in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. 
    • Support the Commercial Estimator with timely responses to queries that could jeopardise an efficient upload into BC. 
    • Ensure all QA processes are followed, with a right first time approach to BC uploading.

    Process Management 

    • Follow the agreed tier 2 and tier 3 processes as agreed in Sales & Estimating part of the Business End-to-End process.
    • Recommend & develop process improvements to streamline the estimating process. 
    • Ensure the accurate upkeep of records of estimating documentation including costing sheets, Bluebeam take-offs and schedules including ensuring the correct agreed taxonomy is used so that changes to costings over time can be tracked and can be easily retrieved from within SharePoint.

    Other Activities  

    • Support constructive change within the Sales & Estimating team and wider business.
    • Ensure that all mandatory company training including Health & Safety training is up-to-date all times. 
    • Undertake any other reasonable management request. 
     
     
     
  • What we'd like in return...

    • Proven experience in a Sales Estimating role.
    • Experience in Bluebeam is preferred but not essential 

    • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (or similar ERP/CRM systems) for commercial administration.

    • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet tight tender deadlines.

    • Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
